About DataKitchen

DataKitchen's mission is to provide the software, service, and knowledge that makes it possible for every data and analytics team to realize their full potential with DataOps.

DataKitchen's Story

DataKitchen started out the way many good companies do. Three people got tired of the same problem.

In the early 2000s, Chris Bergh, Gil Benghiat, and Eric Estabrooks ran data analytics teams at a small services firm. Their teams were smart. The work was not. Every new idea took months. Each release came with a knot in the stomach, fearing something would break. Errors appeared in customer reports before the team noticed. The team apologized more than they built.

They saw how software and manufacturing teams solved similar issues decades ago: version control, automated testing, continuous integration, and statistical process control. None of it was applied to data pipelines. So, they started using it. That's how DataOps got its name, and why they started DataKitchen in 2013.

Thirteen years later, our software and methods help data teams stop firefighting and start shipping. You catch problems before customers do. You can change pipelines without breaking them. You spend your day building, not explaining broken dashboards.

We've open-sourced two products. DataOps TestGen does data quality testing and profiling. DataOps Observability monitors pipelines. Together, they're the fastest and cheapest way to get started with DataOps. Download, point at your data, and find problems the same day.

Here's why we open-sourced them. Great data tests are the core of DataOps — not pipelines, dashboards, or governance decks. Tests. If your team can't tell if today's data is good, nothing else matters. That should be free, or, at worst, the enterprise version should cost less than one engineer's monthly salary. Data quality testing is too important to require a seven-figure contract.

Our goal is simple: deliver insight to customers with no errors and a high rate of change. Less stress. Fewer 2am pages. More time on the work you want to do. Download DataOps TestGen and DataOps Observability today to start catching data issues before your customers do.

Gil Benghiat

Co-Founder and VP of Product and Implementation

Gil's career has always been data-oriented, starting with collecting and displaying network data at AT&T Bell Laboratories, managing data at Sybase, collecting and cleaning clinical trial data at PhaseForward, integrating pharmaceutical sales data at LeapFrogRx, and liberating data at Solid Oak Consulting. Gil has an MS in Computer Science from Stanford University and a BS in Applied Mathematics/Biology from Brown University. Now that he completed hiking all 67 of New England's 4,000 peaks, he is exploring Boston harbor islands via his sailboat.

Eric Estabrooks

Co-Founder and VP of Services

Eric was bit by the software bug, early in his career, while working on Finite Element Analysis and implementing algorithms to model material deformation at high temperature. Prior to founding DataKitchen, Eric was the VP of Cloud and Data Services at LeapFrogRx, where he built a high-performing data services team that had quality and process improvement baked into its DNA. Before that, Eric was a lead developer and software architect at Premisys Corporation, acquired by J.D. Edwards, where he helped develop a Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) platform for manufacturers of highly customizable products. Eric holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University.
