Best data governance and DQ utility tools

Catalogs, governance platforms, and open-source data quality utilities, all scored against DataKitchen TestGen. Useful when your problem starts with lineage or metadata, not with broken row counts.

The short version

Catalogs are excellent at metadata. They are not data quality tools.

Atlan, Alation, DataHub, OpenMetadata, and Collibra catalog and govern. Their data quality features are bolt-ons. The open-source DQ libraries (Deequ, OHDSI, CSVPath) are libraries, not platforms. TestGen is the open-source platform: profiling, auto-tests, anomaly detection, and a UI a data steward will actually use.
