Webinar: Data Contracts

Live webinar: Tuesday, November 17, 2026, 12 pm ET / 5 pm GMT. Hosted by Chris Bergh. Save your seat.

Google Trends shows ‘data contract’ searches up 300% in the last year. Most of those contracts end up as documents nobody runs, so nobody notices the supplier’s data has drifted until a dashboard starts showing nonsense. A contract without data tests is decoration.

TestGen ships data contracts on November 12, in both the open source and Enterprise editions. In this webinar, we’ll show you how to use the open source version to create, validate, edit, and manage contracts fast, whether you write SQL every day or never touch it. The contract describes the data (its columns, types, and what each field means) and carries the tests that prove the data matches that description. Engineers can work in YAML. Data stewards and business owners can read and edit the same contract in the UI. Because it’s open source, the contract travels with a tool the other side can install in minutes, no signing required.

Take TestGen and a few database tables, and in 60 seconds you’ll have a working data contract with 80% of the data tests you need.

Add your favorite LLM and open-source TestGen MCP, plus the metadata TestGen already holds. Review what it proposes, and you’re at 90%. Total time: 5 minutes.

The last 10% are unique to your business. Give open-source TestGen to your business users, and they create or configure those right in the TestGen UI. No SQL, no ticket to the data team. 100% contract test coverage.

Then we’ll get to where to put your contracts. A contract is tests, so it belongs everywhere tests belong: at your supplier before they ship, on ingest before bad data lands in bronze, at delivery as a gate so a broken export never goes out from the final gold layer, and in CI so a code change that breaks a downstream promise fails before it reaches your customer.

The first of the four is the one most teams skip, and it’s the best one. Checking a supplier’s file after it arrives makes you the goalie for somebody else’s mistakes. Our own data engineering team gets garbage from suppliers routinely. So we’re handing them open-source TestGen and a contract, and the rule is simple: “Run this before you send us the file. If it fails, we don’t accept it.”

We’ll take one messy data set and build its contract live, edit it in the UI, and turn it into a pass-or-fail gate.

Register for Data Contracts, live on November 17.
